ENCANTO Consortium Welcomes Maastricht UMC+ as a New Clinical Partner
The ENCANTO consortium has welcomed Maastricht University Medical Center+ (MUMC+), the Netherlands, as a new project partner, further strengthening the consortium’s clinical expertise and capacity to advance the project’s objectives.
MUMC+ joins the consortium following the withdrawal of Theracell Advanced Biotechnology (Greece), which left the project due to an internal strategic reorientation. The consortium is grateful to Theracell for its expertise, valuable contributions, and collaboration throughout its involvement in the project.
MUMC+ joins the consortium as a leading academic medical centre with extensive experience in joint-preserving orthopaedic treatments and clinical research. The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery manages a large population of patients with cartilage defects and patellofemoral disorders and has significant expertise in Autologous Chondrocyte Implantation (ACI), knee cartilage repair, and the conduct of early- and late-phase clinical trials. The institution’s clinical research infrastructure and Good Clinical Practice (GCP)-qualified teams will support efficient patient recruitment and the successful implementation of the project’s clinical activities.
An additional strength brought by Maastricht UMC+ is access to 7 Tesla MRI technology, which will enable highly detailed imaging of cartilage repair tissue following N-TEC treatment. This advanced imaging capability will contribute to the evaluation of treatment quality and provide valuable data for the project’s clinical assessments.
The integration of Maastricht UMC+ ensures continuity in the implementation of the ENCANTO project while reinforcing the consortium’s multidisciplinary expertise in regenerative medicine, cartilage repair, and clinical translation. With this addition, the consortium is well positioned to continue progressing towards its objective of developing an innovative regenerative treatment for patellofemoral osteoarthritis based on autologous nasal cartilage cells and N-TEC technology.
